WARRENSBURG, Mo. (July, 27, 2016) - The NCAA has announced this afternoon the conference nominees for the 2016 Woman of the Year award, with Central Missouri Track and Field student-athlete
Heavin Warner representing the MIAA.
Today's announcement narrows down the field from 517 school nominee's to 142 conference selections across all three divisions, including 37 from Division II. In early September, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will name the Top 30 honorees, representing the top 10 women in each division.
Warner finished her career at UCM earlier in the month at the USA Olympic Trials, where she finished fifth in the hammer throw. Throughout her storied career, Warner is a 10-time All-American and three time National Champion. She has set six UCM records and is the all-time Division II record-holder in the hammer throw.
The St. Joseph, Mo. native is also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, and was recently awarded the prestigious NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship.
The Top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual banquet Oct. 16 in Indianapolis. The award, which is in its 26th year, was first established in 1991 as a way to recognize graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.
