WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Jan. 20, 2018) - No. 10 Central Missouri Jennies Basketball capped a perfect week, going 3-0 after picking up win number 15, 80-73 against Lindenwood. The win is the Jens 12th straight and moves them to 15-1 overall, and they remain unbeaten, at 9-0 in the MIAA.
How it Happened
• Both teams shot the ball extremely well, with each finishing at 49% from the field.
• The back and forth affair was still a one-possession game into the fourth quarter. There were four ties and eight lead changes.Â
• Lindenwood won the rebounding battle, 35-26, but the Jennies kept up in the second half, matching them at 16-apiece.
• One of the biggest factors was turnovers, which Lindenwood committed 24 to the Jens 13.
• The Jennies were able to turn those turnovers in 23 points.Â
• Once again, the three's were not falling for UCM, so they had to survive inside the arc. The Jennies outscored Lindenwood 42-38 in the paint, despite a Lion size advantage.
• UCM was also able to get to the free throw line, and connected on 23 from the line.
• The Jennies came out firing right from the start, getting buckets on their first two possessions to go up 5-0, and forcing an early Lindenwood time at the 9:07 mark.Â
• From there, the Lions settled down and scored the final 10 points of the period. After 10 minutes, Lindenwood led by five, 26-21.
• Lindenwood maintained the upper-hand, and pushed their lead to a game-high nine, 39-30, on a Kallie Bildner layup with under four to play in the half.
•
Paige Redmond answered with a three and that gave UCM the spark they were looking for. The Jennies went on an 11-3 run to end the half and closed the gap to one, 42-41. Lindenwood committed three turnovers in the final 3:18 of the period, while the Jennies went 4-4 in the final 2:03.Â
• The Jennies carried that momentum into the second half and quickly regained the lead, 42-41 on a
Megan Skaggs layup.Â
• After the Lions retook the lead,
Sydney Skaggs knocked in a layup near the end of the third, and the Jennies never trailed again.
• In the second-half the Jennies outscored the Lions by eight, 39-31, and held them to just 13-32 from the floor.Â
It Was Over When...
• The Lions got back to within four, 69-65, with under four minutes to play after a three from Sara Ross. The Jennies missed a three on the other end, but
Megan Skaggs collected the rebound, and got the putback as UCM went back on top by six.
